Melteca, traditionally celebrated for its versatility in cabinetry and furniture applications, is now proving its value as a sophisticated and resilient wall lining solution, unlocking design freedom without compromising project budgets.
Across recent projects, its performance and aesthetic versatility have allowed design teams to deliver cohesive, expressive interiors without the premium of natural timber or veneer.
At Auckland Radiology Oncology, Melteca Parisian Oak was used to soften what can otherwise be a highly clinical environment and support a calm and reassuring spatial experience. Chantel Fisher, Interior Architect from Maken explains what guided the selection:
“A key driver was finding a timber finish that felt genuinely authentic, as the client had a strong aversion to anything that read as ‘fake timber’. Parisian Oak stood out for its soft, refined tone and natural grain, which sat nicely within the overall aesthetic of the project, whilst still offering a durable and easy to clean finish to withstand a healthcare environment.”
The consistent use of Melteca Parisian Oak across the treatment areas, waiting spaces and as a wall lining enabled the Maken design team to deliver a unified material palette that adhered to the strict budget and maintenance requirements inherent in healthcare settings.
In hospitality environments, Melteca has proven equally effective. The Hotel Indigo Reception and Lobby, demanded materials that could express the neighbourhood’s cultural richness while supporting the brand’s creative ethos. For the Hotel Indigo Reception and Lobby, Melteca Aged Walnut in the Organic finish provided the warmth and textural depth the project demanded while achieving the cost efficiencies critical in large-scale hospitality.
“A timber veneer was put forward, we found Melteca as a cost‑efficient alternative… the edge banding and organic textured finish gives it a much more realistic feel than a standard flat laminate,” says Michelle Hughes of Chroma Group.
A commercial civic example can be seen in the Hawera Library, where Melteca Aged Ash unifies a large public space, from the clerestory ceiling to built‑in joinery, reading nooks, and reception areas. The décor introduces a sense of warmth and connection to the surrounding landscape, while the material’s durability supports the demands of a high‑use public setting. Its use across surfaces helps tie together the expansive interior, giving the space both coherence and approachability.
