Some of the best kitchen design happens within constraints, and when this family came to Fluid Interiors with a small footprint and a big wish list, the result was a space that delivers on both.

The clients came to Fluid Interiors having already seen one of their kitchens and wanting to achieve a similar aesthetic in their own home. The brief was to reinterpret that look in a way that suited a smaller kitchen than the one they had seen, while improving functionality, flow, and connection to the living areas for everyday family life.

The existing layout wasn't doing the home any favours. A bulky storage area housing the hot water cylinder sat to one side of the kitchen, and the sink and extractor ducting were fixed in place. There was also a key request from the clients: a proper coffee station, one that could be easily accessed but hidden when not needed.

Rather than working around those constraints, the team rethought the whole layout. The storage area became a fully functional butler's pantry, which opened up the main kitchen and improved how the spaces connected. A custom cavity was built into the pantry wall to house the fridge, and the coffee station found its home in a dedicated nook behind bifold doors.

Repurposing an existing storage area into a highly functional butler’s pantry gave the kitchen some much-needed extra space.

For the material palette, Fluid Interiors turned to Melteca Parisian Oak in the Organic finish. The soft, natural timber tone brings an authentic style and warmth to the cabinetry. Laminam Luna White was used on the island benchtop for its texture and subtle movement, while Caesarstone Frosty Carrina, with its gentle veining, ties the whole palette together on the back benchtops.

"Parisian Oak is one of our favourites from the new Melteca range, it has a beautiful soft, natural timber tone and feels authentic. We loved the pairing with Laminam Luna White, as its texture and movement brought a softness to the island elements. The Frosty Carrina added elegant veining that helped bring everything together in a calm, cohesive way.” - Fluid Interiors

In addition, the curves of the rangehood and the butler’s pantry are used to further soften the space. The sculpted rangehood, clad in Parisian Oak, takes what's usually a hard functional box and turns it into a design detail. A curved archway at the entry to the butler's pantry creates a softer transition between spaces. Both features sit in contrast to the clean, square island, which keeps the room grounded and practical.

The centre island is softened with curved elements and mosaic tiles that echo the warm, understated character of Melteca Parisian Oak and the tactile surface of Laminam Luna White.

The clients are genuinely loving the kitchen and how it works in their everyday life. As they shared with Fluid Interiors:

“My wife, and our little one, are enjoying the new kitchen very much. My wife has been cooking more often than before, which says it all.”

Good material choices, smart use of space and high-impact, understated details all add to a beautiful and highly liveable family kitchen, a stunning example of what thoughtful kitchen design can achieve.
